Lightweight materials.

Based solely on the four-door bodyshell, the M3 makes its way CRT use of composite materials. The hood, so to speak, made of CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic) weighs a quarter of steel, while maintaining the same strength and stiffness. The same material was also used for the shells of the front seats: the layers of CFRP are wound on a honeycomb structure of recycled paper, coated with the visible parts of the traditional carbon fiber. The reinforced plastic was used for the rear spoiler and air ducts for the front bumper behind the shield.

Touches 290 times.

The BMW M3 weighs 1,580 kg CRT, 70 less than the standard M3 four-door, thanks to its 450 horsepower 4.4 liter V8, has therefore a power to weight ratio of 3.5 kg per horsepower. Also helps to lighten the mass of the titanium exhaust system designed specifically for the M3 CRT. The tire size is different between the front and rear: the front there are a pair of 245/35 R 19 while the drive wheels rely on the 265/35 R 19. The M3 CRT has a top speed of 290 km / h and accelerates from 0 to 100 times in 4.4 seconds.

The name.

BMW M3, CRT, or almost says it all, once dissolved the abbreviation at the end reads ‘Carbon Racing Technology’. Directly inspired by the world of racing, this lightweight version of the BMW M3 has created a series of 67 specimens produced with specific materials and manufacturing processes to reduce the weight of the components. For example, the carbon fiber hood weighs a quarter of the equivalent steel, but according to BMW can provide the same rigidity.

FEATHERWEIGHT

The basis for this BMW M3 is clearly the CRT of the BMW M3. It retains the four doors, four seats, and also the look that stands out for the Frozen Polar Silver Metallic paint, but also for the more pronounced rear spoiler and some details like the vents on the hood edged in red . The real difference is, however, given the balance: a weight of 1580 pounds (about 70 kg less than the M3 ‘standard’) that has been reached thanks to the wide use of carbon fiber for different components.

FOUR EXHAUST

addition to the hood and the spoiler, in fact, even the sports seats of the BMW M3 CRT uses the same lightweight materials. Dell’allestimento are also four exhaust in titanium and 19-inch aluminum alloy. As for the interior, red leather upholstery combines with black leather outfit and red fiber sprouting decorative strips of aluminum.

PRICE WATCH

With a weight / power ratio of 3.5 kg / hp and an engine of 450 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque (both higher than the M3 data is common), the BMW M3 CRT can cover the 0-100 in just 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 290 km / h, dual-clutch gearbox with a 7-speed to handle all its exuberance. At a guess we can say that nothing is missing to satisfy even the most acute itching sports. As always, however, the end is there to deal with the price, which in Germany did not drop a dime from an altitude of 130,000 euros. The pieces available for Europe are around 67.
